Simple Ways to Check PF Balance Without UAN Number (2025 Guide)

Every salaried employee in India who contributes to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) has the right to know how much savings they’ve accumulated. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) manages all contributions and withdrawals under the supervision of the central government.

Usually, employees use their Universal Account Number (UAN) to check their PF balance. But what if you’ve forgotten your UAN or don’t have it handy? Don’t worry — there are still simple ways to check your PF balance without a UAN number as long as your KYC details (like Aadhaar, PAN, and mobile number) are linked to your EPF account.

Let’s explore the easiest methods below.

1. Check PF Balance via SMS (Without UAN Number)

You can quickly find out your PF balance by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the messaging app on your phone.

  2. Type the message in the following format:   EPFOHO <space> UAN <space> ENG    (Note: ENG refers to English. You can also use HIN for Hindi, TAM for Tamil, etc.)

  3. Send this message to 7738299899. Once your SMS is successfully sent, you’ll receive a reply from EPFO containing details such as: Your UAN number, Date of birth, and the current PF account balance. Depending on your mobile operator, you may be charged a small SMS fee.

2. Check PF Balance by Giving a Missed Call

If you prefer a quicker and cost-free option, you can check your PF balance by giving a missed call from your registered mobile number. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your phone’s dialer.

  2. Dial 011-22901406 and let the call ring until it disconnects automatically.

  3. Within a few minutes, you’ll receive an SMS from EPFO with details such as:

    • Your UAN,

    • Name, and

    • The total PF balance available in your account.

Important: Make sure your mobile number is linked to your EPF account, or else you won’t receive the balance information.

Final Thoughts

Losing or forgetting your UAN number doesn’t mean you can’t access your provident fund details. By using either the SMS method or the missed call service, you can easily check your PF balance without UAN in just a few seconds.

These services are free, convenient, and accessible to any registered EPFO member — helping you stay updated about your savings anytime, anywhere.
